Ten teams will be attending the qualifiers today and competing in a series of matches to see which two teams secure the final spots. The day will see each team placed into groups in which they will play four matches, before quarter-finals and then semi-finals. These teams are Enniskillen Royal Grammar 1&2, Magh Erne College, Assumption Grammar School, Mount Lourdes Grammar 1&2, Friends' School Lisburn, Down High, Royal School Armagh and Sullivan Upper.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar’s first team will be vying to hold on to their title, having won last year’s Cup, after beating Royal School Armagh 10-2 in an exhilarating final. In this year’s competition, they are on a winning streak, having won ten out of eleven games. Their second team is doing just as well, having won seven from seven games.
Another school performing excellently this year is Assumption Grammar School, a brand new school to the Danske Bank Girls’ Schools’ Cup competition. They have played nine games in this competition and won six of them, one including an impressive win against last year’s finalists, Royal School Armagh in Round 1, 12-10.
This year’s competition sees five new teams to contact rugby, Mount Lourdes Grammar School have two teams that are brand new to girls’ rugby, and Friends’ School Lisburn and Assumption Grammar School are transitioning this year from tag rugby to full contact.
We would like to wish all the teams the best of luck today!
