Eric O'Sullivan on 100 caps for Ulster

Ulster's loosehead prop reflects on reaching a milestone 100 appearances for the province and some of his favourite career memories.

27 year old Dublin man, Eric O'Sullivan, has quickly seen himself turn from Academy prospect into a fully-fledged member of the Senior Men's squad, gaining the trust of Head Coach Dan McFarland to be a major part of Ulster's front row over the past few seasons.

His exploits for Ulster also saw him rewarded with an international cap for Ireland's Senior Men's side against Scotland in the 2020 Autumn Nations Cup.

Cap number 99 was a happy memory for O'Sullivan as Ulster dominated DHL Stormers to win 35-5 at Kingspan Stadium in the BKT United Rugby Championship.

O'Sullivan will be hoping cap 100 against the Glasgow Warriors will be as positive.

He fondly remembers his memories of a first senior Ulster appearance off the bench against the Scarlets back in September 2018.

"The first cap always stands out. I always wanted to be a professional rugby player as a kid so the first cap is a moment you look forward to, getting into an academy and building on from that first cap. European cup games are always brilliant, it's always a special atmosphere at home games."

O'Sullivan remains remarkably grounded for his achievements, saying he takes nothing for granted at the top level of rugby.

"I put in a lot of time and work to get here and as I've got more caps, there is a cap board on the wall on the way into training that makes you appreciate how good people have been. Players like Darren Cave, Andrew Trimble, Bestie (Rory Best), big names with lots of caps so to join them on 100 is cool. Hopefully I can build on that and get more."

"I remember being in the Academy, wondering if I would I get a cap at all."

O'Sullivan also enjoys helping out in training with Women's rugby, helping the Ulster Senior Women's team on occasion. He explained what helping out means to him.

"I enjoy helping the girls, I'd like to think I know some things about what I do in a scrum, so it's good to give some information and advice to them. Also with the Senior Women, it's great to get a fresh perspective, we help each other."

O'Sullivan hopes that Ulster can kickstart the rest of their crucial period of the season by winning against a tough Glasgow Warriors side.

" A win would be massive for us, it's going to be a tough challenge especially at their home, we will have to be on it. Hopefully we can front up and make an impact on the game."

A win would no doubt put the icing on the cake for the Irishman's 100th cap.
