What age did you start playing rugby?
At about 10 years old at Donaghadee RFC.
What’s your favourite game you’ve played?
There are so many. The Munster quarter-final at home in Kingspan Stadium last season is up there.
Best player you have played against?
I played against Wesley Fofana at Clermont in 2016/17, and he was very good.
If you didn’t play centre, what position would you be?
Anywhere across the back row. The guys always joke with me that I’m heavier than them all, so I may as well get in there someday!
What’s your pre-match routine?
I always eat the same foods, and that includes Coco Pops before I leave home for the stadium. I also have a load of superstitions, but too many to say.
What are your top tips for playing at 12?
Take your time. Don’t try and rush on the ball too much, and give yourself time on it.
Who is better at celebrating between you and James Hume?
James Hume has got more in the bank, so hopefully he scores a few more tries this year, and we can see a few more.
Do you find the diet and training tough?
You can eat whatever you want when you’re training, so it’s more the training that’s difficult. When you get places like Johannesburg, and it’s 32 degrees and at altitude.
What’s your favourite post-match meal?
When I’m at home, I always go to McDonald’s for two double cheeseburgers, so that would be my favourite.
Does the travel to South Africa make the games harder?
I think it does in some respect, and you can see the results that teams get when they are out here, as not many teams win. But our travel has gone well so far, and it was great to get the win on Saturday.
Have you tried biltong?
I tried it one time when we were over playing the Cheetahs, but then I got sick, so I’m going to give it a miss this time.
Who is the best football player in the squad?
Myself, and Mikey Lowry is very good. Worst would probably be Shanners, Billy Burns and John Cooney.
What do you do in your spare time?
Walk my two dogs, Binx and Bella, and look after my two-and-a-half-year-old, Arlo.
