During the month of October 11 National Schools participated in the Virginia RFC Mixed Touch Rugby training programme run by Club Community Rugby Officer Jon Watt.

During this time almost 1,000 primary school children were able to play rugby, many for the first time. The training programme concluded with a Touch Rugby Blitz at the Virginia Rugby Club grounds on Thursday 24th October.

Thirty three mixed teams (of 8) entered the blitz with over two hundred and sixty children playing Touch Rugby, enjoying the fine weather and having great fun. The Order of Malta Ambulance from the Cavan Unit was on hand to provide first aid and had to treat a few minor bumps and sprains.

All players received a snack pack (including fruit, crisps and water) to take home with them on the bus along with a leaflet detailing the Virginia RFC 'Play Rugby' open days and contact details.

Overall, a fantastic day was had by all the players, teachers, club volunteers, medical staff and spectators.
