Women & Girls’ Rugby
A Game for Everyone
Women's and girls' rugby continues to grow across Ulster, creating opportunities for players of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to get involved in the game. Whether you're discovering rugby for the first time, developing your skills through school or club rugby, or aspiring to represent Ulster and Ireland, there is a place for you within our rugby community.
From grassroots participation to elite performance programmes, Ulster Rugby is committed to providing accessible and enjoyable opportunities that allow women and girls to thrive both on and off the pitch.
Club Rugby
Club rugby is at the heart of the women's and girls' game in Ulster. Across the province, clubs provide welcoming and inclusive environments where players can learn, develop and enjoy rugby as part of a team.
Girls can begin their rugby journey through age-grade programmes, progressing through youth sections before moving into senior rugby. For adult players, clubs offer opportunities to start playing, return to the game after time away, or continue competing throughout their rugby journey.
Beyond the pitch, clubs provide a strong sense of community where players build friendships, develop confidence and become part of something bigger than the game itself.
Whether your goal is to play socially, compete regularly or pursue representative honours, club rugby provides the foundation for lifelong involvement in the sport.
Schools Rugby
Schools play a vital role in introducing young people to rugby and supporting the continued growth of the women's game.
Across Ulster, schools rugby provides girls with opportunities to experience the game in a fun, safe and supportive environment. Through regular participation, festivals, competitions and development programmes, players can develop their skills while enjoying the many physical, social and personal benefits that rugby offers.
Schools rugby helps build confidence, teamwork, leadership and resilience, while creating pathways for players to continue their rugby journey within local clubs and representative programmes.
The continued growth of girls' rugby in schools is helping to inspire the next generation of players and ensuring that more young people have the opportunity to experience the game.
Performance Pathways
For players with aspirations to compete at higher levels, Ulster Rugby provides a structured player pathway designed to support talent development and progression.
The pathway programme offers opportunities for players to access high-quality coaching, performance support and representative rugby experiences, helping them maximise their potential within the game.
Through regional and provincial development programmes, players can progress through age-grade representative teams and, for some, onto national pathways and elite-level competition.
The pathway is designed not only to develop rugby ability but also to support personal growth, leadership and the values that underpin the game.
More Than a Sport
Rugby offers far more than physical activity. It helps players develop confidence, resilience, communication skills and lasting friendships. The values of teamwork, respect and inclusivity are central to the game and create an environment where everyone can feel supported and valued.
For many women and girls, rugby becomes a lifelong connection to a community that encourages personal growth, celebrates achievement and provides opportunities both on and off the field.
