Age-grade interpro roundup

Leinster Rugby U19 28-14 Ulster Rugby U19

It took a strong second-half showing for Leinster to guarantee the U19 Interprovincial Championship at Energia Park on Saturday.

The hosts scored two early converted tries to establish their lead before Ulster captain Zac Soloman scored off a lineout maul, with Ben McFarlane converting.

Cameron Faith crashed over for Ulster's second and McFarlane knocked over the kick to make it 14-14 at half time.

However, another brace of Leinster tries into the 2nd half made sure of the win to secure the Championship.

In difficult conditions in Dublin, the hosts ran into an early lead by notching up two tries inside 15 minutes.

Ulster hit back when flanker Jamie Jackson charged down and kick and then gathered to cross the line for a try.

Scrum-half David Armstrong raced clear for Ulster's second try, and Josh Watterson nailed the conversion to make it 12-all after 26 minutes.

Leinster racked up another couple of tries before Ulster's Fraser Cunningham made it a one-score game with a late try, also converted by Watterson, before the hosts ran in their 5th try to finish the game.

Leinster Rugby came from behind twice to claim the U-18 Clubs Interprovincial title at Energia Park.

Ulster were a match for their hosts until 3 tries in the last-quarter made all the difference.

A Billy Allen try had given them an early lead, with a conversion and penalty from Harry McKeown made it 10-0 after 14 minutes.

Another McKeown penalty kept Ulster clear of the hosts, and they held a 13-8 lead at the break.

Reuben Gibson powered over early in the 2nd half to cancel out a Leinster try, and McKeown converted to make it 20-15.

However, Leinster ran in 3 tries as they recovered the lead and moved clear of the visiting province.

Elsewhere over the weekend, the Deloitte Ulster U18 Girls were beaten away to Munster, losing 47-5.
