Andrew Trimble: Gilroy scored the try of the season

Andrew Trimble might have been making a record 190th appearance for Ulster on Friday night, but it was another winger that made the headlines in terms of try-scoring.

Just before half-time Craig Gilroy danced past four defenders and showed remarkable speed and strength to score one of the best tries of recent times. Despite it being only the start of October, Trimble believes it was the try of the season:

“I passed him the ball, it is my fault!” he jokes. “As soon as it hit him, he took off, beat the first guy and I knew that he was going to score the try of the season. That’s how talented he is. He’s an absolute live wire and I was just worried that he was going to get his hat trick at the end! He’s a really talented boy and I enjoyed getting out there and playing some rugby with him.”

The good news for Ulster fans is that Trimble came through the game without any side effects and that be believes his rehabilitation from injury is now complete:

“My toe felt 100%, my hip felt 100%. I felt really good out there, despite not getting a lot of opportunities with the ball in hand. It was really pleasing from my point of view and I feel like I can really kick on. I am not going to be doing any rehab next week, I am going to be training full on and hopefully I’ll get better.

“There was a lot to be pleased about. It’s a shame that we can’t capitalise on the momentum and that we have to wait for two weeks before we play Edinburgh. That will be a tough test but we will be ready for it.”
