Ballynahinch 3rd XV win Crawford Cup Final

Ballynahinch won the Crawford Cup for the second time in three years with a resounding 51-0 victory over Banbridge at Kingspan Stadium this afternoon.

Hinch scored eight tries in a one sided affair.

Hinch opening the scoring after eight minutes with a try from scrumhalf Jonathan Murdock.

Hooker Connor Philips showed a great turn of pace with a midfield break which cut open the Banbridge defence, he drew the last defender before offloading to Murdock to go under the posts with winger Joseph Bingham adding the simple conversion.

Banbridge were denied a try on 17 minutes after the forwards had worked the ball through a series of phases, openside flanker Andy Brown stretched to touch down but the Hinch defence were able to stop him grounding the ball.

From the resulting five minute scrum, Bann again patiently worked the ball through the phases but were held up over the line again and from the next scrum out half John Ferris put in a cross field kick but it when into touch.

Bingham extended the Hinch lead on 26 minutes with a simple penalty from in front of the posts after Bann strayed offside in midfield.

Hinch got their second try two minutes later, from a ruck just inside the Banbridge half Murdock picked up the ball and went on a sniping run, his pace took him clear and he had the power to break the last tackle to go under the posts and Bingham converted.

The Ballymacarn Park side crossed the whitewash again on 34 minutes.

From a scrum just outside the 22 Bann put width and speed on the ball to create an overlap on the opposite wing and fullback Michael Carson went over with Bingham converting.

Hinch increased their lead at the interval to 29-0 with a try three minutes before half time, outhalf Ross Carlisle make a break from his own half he fed winger Mark McCormick who carried deep into the 22 before putting Bingham over in the corner.

Bingham got his second try two minutes after the restart when Hinch simply moved the ball through the hands to create an overlap for the winger to touch down in the corner but he could convert his own try.

Hinch had replacement Nicky Jones sin-binned on 45 minutes for not using his arms in the tackle.

Carson got his second try on 66 minutes, Hinch were awarded a free kick at a lineout in the Bann 22, the forwards rumbled close to the line to create overlap before spinning the ball wide for the full back to cross in the corner.

Hinch got their seventh try on 72 minutes when replacement winger Ben McMullan sprinted from deep inside his own half to go under the posts and Bingham converted.

McMullan rounded of the scoring in injury time when he finished off a slick handing move in the corner.
