Ballynahinch & Dungannon progress to First Trust Senior Cup Final

Ballynahinch and Dungannon will contest the 2016 First Trust Senior Cup final, following semi-final victories over Banbridge and Belfast Harlequins respectively.

First Trust Senior Cup Semi Final:
Banbridge 5-32 Ballynahinch

In the County Down derby, hosts Banbridge managed to hold Ballynahinch to a 5-13 deficit at the interval, but 'Hinch ran in three second half tries to secure the win.

Chris Quinn initially put Ballynahinch ahead with two penalties, and he also added the extras following the awarding of a penalty try when a maul was brought down close to the line. Banbridge centre Andy Morrison responded by picking up and running in from 45 metres to keep his side in touch.

Shortly after the restart James McBriar chased a kick through to touch down. Will Stewart punished a stretched home defence with another try, before Ulster player Lorcan Dow added the fourth shortly after to put the result beyond doubt.

First Trust Senior Cup Semi Final:
Belfast Harlequins 14-18 Dungannon

In the other semi final, Dungannon opened the scoring with a Jake Finlay penalty but it was the home side who made the most work in the first half; converted tries from Joni Seri and Timmy Emerson putting 'Quins 14-3 ahead at the break.

Following a largely uneventful third quarter, Dungannon burst into life with tries from Karl Egan and James MacMahon to secure the win and set up a showdown with Ballynahinch at Kingspan Stadium on Thursday 15th December, where they will be hoping to deny the 'Hinch of a hat-trick of Senior Cup titles.
