Josh Donaldson lifts the Millar McCall Wylie Ulster Junior Cup Captain Josh Donaldson scored a brace of tries to help Ballynahinch 2nds as they beat Ballyclare 17-7 in Tuesday evening's Millar McCall Wylie Junior Cup Final. Outhalf Davy Harris, who had a hand in both tries, kicked seven points for the County Down outfit as they sealed the win. 'Hinch looked the more composed in the opening stages and they were rewarded when Donaldson touched down to the left of the posts after seven minutes. Harris, who provided the scoring pass, added the extras for a 0-7 lead. Ballyclare then enjoyed a fine spell with openside flanker Gary Weatherup to the fore on a number of occasions. Prop Al Boyd crashed over the 'Hinch whitewash but play was called back by referee Adrian Reavey after a forward pass. With a slight wind advantage, Ballyclare were dominating territory and possession but 'Hinch looked dangerous when they attacked from deep. Indeed, just two minutes before the interval outside centre Davy Nicholson produced a strong hand off and burst through the defence but Owen Jarvie was unable to collect his pass with the line at his mercy. Half time: Ballyclare 0 Ballynahinch 7 Ballyclare started the second half brightly but again Nicholson made a strong break out and carried play deep into opposition territory. 'Hinch forced a penalty but Harris was unable to convert in difficult kicking conditions. Weatherup was sin binned for a ruck infringement and 'Hinch took full advantage; Harris again feeding Donaldson who crashed over for his second on the 60 minute mark. Harris also kicked the touchline conversion for a 14-0 lead. This seemed to spur 'Clare into action. Replacement Chris Coburn made a significant contribution off the bench, while outhalf Niall Lawther made a number of line breaks. Outside centre Jonny Reid showed superb footwork to work his way to within inches of the 'Hinch line, only to be denied by a high tackle. But a penalty try, converted by scrumhalf Colin Morrow, and a yellow card for Owen Jarvie, was more than enough of a consolation. But 'Hinch were not to be denied and Harris kicked a penalty to extend his side's lead to 17-7. Ballyclare threatened to get a late consolation but 'Hinch held on for victory, one that tastes even sweeter following a loss to Clogher Valley in last year's final.
