Bobby attended Ballymena Academy where he played for the 1st XV. He was founder member of Antrim RFC and played for the club before joining Portadown where he represented the 1st XV for eight years. He is a past-President of Portadown and has sat on the Irish Youth Committee and on the Ulster Branch Clubs Committee.
Commenting on his election, Bobby said: "It is the pinnacle for any rugby volunteer in Ulster. Certainly, in my earlier years it was not something that I aspired to. However, as the years have gone on and I have spent time on the Branch committee, I was delighted to put my name forward to be President when I was asked. Bobby continued: "It is a recognition, not only of my work, but it is an appreciation of the work of the Youth Committee, of which I was chair, and of my club Portadown. I am only the second person in the history of the club to be President of the IRFU (Ulster Branch), so it is a real honour."
One of the important roles that the President has, is to support every aspect of rugby in the province, so it will be a busy year ahead for the ex-blindside flanker: "I am looking forward to that" he says. "I'll try and say yes to the invitations that come and take the opportunities that arise. My aim is to visit as many clubs as possible throughout the year."
We wish Bobby a highly successful year as President of the IRFU (Ulster Branch).
