As the festive season unfolds, clubs around the province are shining examples of the true spirit of Christmas, going above and beyond to support their communities during challenging times. Banbridge RFC, Ballymoney RFC, and Cooke RFC have each been working tirelessly collecting donations for food banks this Christmas. This unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need embodies the values of compassion and solidarity that define rugby in Ulster.
Banbridge RFC have been collecting donations since the COVID-19 pandemic, recognising the local need for support. Engaging with the food bank initiative, the club's volunteers rallied together to collect donations for the local food bank and delivered essential items to the elderly in the community. This selfless act of kindness not only alleviated the strain on local charities coordinating food banks but also showcased the power of community spirit.
"We are very lucky to have so many wonderful supporters here at Banbridge RFC and of course volunteers allowing us to give back to local people in this way," remarked a representative from the club. The Storehouse Food Bank in Banbridge offers both a food bank and a low-income pantry, catering to the needs of struggling local residents.
Similarly, Ballymoney RFC took on the challenge of supporting their community during the festive season. With a vision of making a difference, the club initiated a December Foodbank Appeal. Members from every section of the club, from the Minis to the Executive Committee, united to support the cause. The generosity displayed by the Ballymoney RFC community surpassed expectations, with representatives from all age groups participating in the initiative.
Peter Rollins, the manager of Ballymoney Food Bank, delivered an eye-opening talk at a local school, inspiring the Rugby Club Community to take action. The collective effort involved a launch video, training sessions doubling as drop-off points, and donations pouring in from Rugby Clubs across Ulster. The heartfelt gratitude expressed by the club reflects the deep sense of community and shared responsibility.
Similarly to Banbridge, Cooke RFC has been collecting donations since the onset of the pandemic. Recognising the power of community collaboration, the club has donated an impressive 850 KG of food over the past three years, aiming to surpass the 1000KG mark this festive season.
As Ulster Rugby, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and sincere thanks to Banbridge RFC, Ballymoney RFC, Cooke RFC, and all the clubs across the province for their outstanding contributions to the well-being of their communities. Your dedication exemplifies the true essence of the holiday season, and we are proud to stand alongside you in spreading joy and goodwill throughout Ulster.
