The event involved 70 players from the Coleraine Chargers, Portadown Panthers, Ballymena Bears, Newforge Taggers and the Errigal Eagles.
Each of the teams played five games in what were perfect conditions at Lodge Road, Coleraine. This was the first time the Errigal Eagles from Letterkenny/Finn Valley had attended a blitz and Colin Farrell, one of their coaches, commented: “We are delighted to take part in today’s event. The players have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of taking part and meeting the other players. The Eagles are now looking forward to hosting the blitz at Letterkenny RFC in April next year.”
Chairman of Coleraine RFC & CC, Nigel Handforth, congratulated the players on their display of exciting rugby and thanked everybody for taking part. The next blitz will be hosted by Portadown Panthers in March 2015.
Tag Rugby is a non-contact sport that is an enjoyable, fun and active way, to keep both healthy and fit. It can be played by men, women and children (aged 6+) and is a fully inclusive version of the sport.
Disability tag rugby has enjoyed massive growth in recent years. This has been made possible due to the generous support of the NI Executive and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure through the 'Promoting Equality, Tackling Poverty and Social Exclusion through Sport' programme.
