Competitive Day At Ulster Carpets Youth Cup Finals

Banbridge, Rainey, Armagh and Randalstown were the winners in the Ulster Carpets Youth Cup Finals at Ravenhill on Saturday.



U13 Cup: Randalstown 37 Clogher Valley 5

The opening of the Ulster Carpets Youth Cup Finals Day was the U13 Development Cup, between Randalstown and Clogher Valley. Randalstown were determined in there resolve opening up a 20 point lead by half time. Clogher Valley came stronger in the second half being rewarded by their efforts with a try by James Trimble. Unfortunatley Robbie Mills' kick bounced back off the upright. Randalstown closed of the match winning 37-5.  Randalstown's Cormac Devlin and Peter Cullen scored two tries apiece in the win.

U15 Cup: Armagh 16 Virginia 7

The second game on the programme, the U15 Cup was controlled by Armagh who scored two tries by Neil McGuinness and a penalty by Cormac Fox in a convincing in the first half to lead 13-0. But Virginia had more of the game in the second half and hit back with a converted try by Luke Sheriff 13-7. Virginia had the chance to narrow the score, but missed a penalty, before Armagh sealed it with a three pointer from Fox.

U17 Cup: Randalstown 7 Rainey OB 11

Randalstown had a second representative team in the Youth Cup Finals, followed hoping to match their U13s superb win. They started well taking the first score with a converted try. In this closely fought match Rainey closed the gap just before half time with an unconverted try. Most of the second half the score remained 7-5 in favour of Randalstown, although both sides had opportunities to score. With minutes to go Rainey slotted over two penalties to seal the win. It was heartbreak for Randalstown but joy for Rainey in this dramatic finish to the U17 Cup.

U19 Cup: Banbridge 27 Ballynahinch 13

Banbridge trailed 10-0 early in the first half but showed tremendous spirit to fight back for a 27-13 success. Ballynahinch opened up with two unconverted tries by Mark Stephens and Philip Barr. Banbridge replied with a penalty by Aaron Kennedy. Bann's tries by were all converted by Kennedy, who also traded penalties with Lee Spence.
