A round-up of the latest Danske Bank Schools’ rugby action, by Ulster Schools’ PRO Barney McGonigle:

Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup

The previously postponed Group Stage D game, featuring Larne Grammar School and Coleraine Grammar School was played on Wednesday 3 December.

Coleraine Grammar finished the game with a bonus-point winning 35-13 victory.

Max Gault scored the Larne try to which the impressive Jonnie Kennedy added the successful conversion kick as well as two penalty goals.

With players such as Joshua Hawe setting the pace of the game, Coleraine Grammar scored four tries through Lewis Marshall, Archie McLenaghan, Luke McMillan and Alec Doherty.

Ben Todd had a fine game off the tee with three successful conversions as well as three successful penalty kicks.

Saturday 6 December saw the last of the group stage games take place.

In Group A, Bangor Grammar School hosted Ballyclare High School in a game Ballyclare won 35-10.

The Bangor Grammar points came through a converted try from Ryan Gowdy who was also successful with one penalty kick.

Ballyclare scored five tries through Lewis Flynn, Josh McColgan, with two, Tom Falls and Zach Thompson.

James Woodside added the extras to four of the Ballyclare High tries with Jude Semple adding a fifth conversion.

Belfast High School played Regent House School in a game Regent House School won 47-15.

Belfast High added a lot to the game and got some reward for their endeavours with one try each from Ben Gardner and Hubert Jaszczak alongside one successful conversion kick and one penalty goal from Matthew McCabe.

Regent House School scored seven tries through Matthew Callaghan, with two, Treshon James, Fintan McDonald, Jonah Johnson, Jed Pountney and Ollie Heasley.

Zach McMinn added six successful conversion kicks.

In Group B, Cambridge House Grammar School played Limavady Grammar School in a game Limavady Grammar won 29-3.

Thomas Moorehead scored the Cambridge House points with a well-struck penalty kick.

Limavady Grammar scored three tries through Jacob Baird, with a brace, and James Mackey.

Alexander Howe had a great game off the tee with three successful conversions as well as one penalty goal.

Down High School played Dromore High School and won the game, 47-7.

Ian Lei, William Quinn, Lewis Connolly, Reuben Watson, Alex Watson, Matthew Horner, Oran Denvir, Dylan McMullan and Josh McCaughey were the scorers for the Down High School team.

Dromore High scored on try through Andrew Waugh which was converted by Alfie Clarke.

In Group C, Bangor Academy played Dalriada School and won the game, 15-14.

The impressive Steven Boyd scored two tries for Bangor Academy with Sean Hynes adding the extras to one of the tries as well as calmly slotting over the match-winning penalty kick.

Dalriada scored two tries as well during the game.

Adam Torrens and Matthew Nicholl scored the tries with Chris Finney adding two successful conversions.

Royal School Dungannon played Banbridge Academy and recorded a 36-16 victory.

RS Dungannon scored five tries through Adam Nixon, James Gibson, Matthew Smith and the very impressive Blake Redmond, with two.

James Gibson capped a fine personal performance with four successful conversions as well as one successful penalty.

The Banbridge points came through unconverted tries from Patrick McElroy and Luke Wills alongside two successful Max Ireland penalty kicks.

In Group D, Enniskillen Royal Grammar School played Friends’ School Lisburn in a game Friends’ won 9-7.

Harry Fallis ran in a try for Enniskillen Royal, with Sam Paton adding the successful conversion.

Ross Glover was the hero of the day for Friends’ with three successful penalty goals.

Foyle College played Larne Grammar School and recorded a 26-14 victory.

The Foyle College points came through tries from Thom O’Neill, Darragh Bradley and Cian O’Leary, with two.

Niall Kelly added three successful conversions.

Larne Grammar ran in two tries through Benjamin Sterling with Jonnie Kennedy adding two successful conversions.

Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2XV Cup

On Wednesday afternoon, most of the Round 2 games, were played.

Ballyclare High School played Foyle College and won the game, 46-5.

Dalriada School played Down High School in a game Down High won 40-0.

Enniskillen Royal Grammar School played Omagh Academy and won the closely contested game, 10-7.

Friends’ School Lisburn played Banbridge Academy in a game Friends’ won 36-17.

Rainey Endowed School played Limavady Grammar School and won the game, 43-0.

The game involving Regent House School and Dromore High School ended with Regent House  progressing to the next round.

Royal School Dungannon played Belfast High School in a game RS Dungannon won 48-7.

The draws for the third round of the 2XV Cup and first round of the 2XV Trophy took place recently.

1XV Friendlies

On Saturday 6 December, a number of 1XV friendly games took place.

Ballymena Academy played Wallace High School and won the game, 19-7.

Ballymena Academy scored three tries through Jacob Casson, with two, and Harry Lamont.

James McMillan added two successful conversion kicks.

The Wallace points came through a James Gould try which was converted by Alec Stevenson.

Lurgan College was to have played Grosvenor Grammar School but the game fell victim to the prevailing weather conditions.

Methodist College played Terenure College in a game Terenure College won 15-10.

Brody McGowan-Gould scored the MCB try with Louis Curran kicking one successful conversion as well as one penalty goal.

Terenure College scored two tries through Andrew Smyth with Gareth Morgan adding one successful conversion kick as well as one penalty goal.

Portadown College played Omagh Academy in a game Portadown won 21-17.

The Portadown points came through tries from Sammy Walsh, Harvey Creaney and Callum Doak.

Charlie Rodgers was successful with all three of his conversion kicks.

Isaac Crawford, Jacob Crosbie and Matthew Brady scored the Omagh Academy tries with Sam Harper adding one successful conversion kick.

Royal Belfast Academical Institution made the journey to Dublin 4 where they played St Michael’s College.

St Michael’s won the game, 38-26.

Sam Kennedy, with two, Matthew McCarthy, Max Roche, Herbie Boyle and Dylan Bevilacqua were the St Michael’s College try to which Matthew McKenna added four successful conversion kicks.

Ross Dillon, Sebastian Clarke, Jack Coulter and Adam Boyd scored the Royal Belfast Academical Institution tries.

Charlie O’Connor was successful with three of his conversion kicks.
