Seven special schools from across the Province recently travelled to Newtownards to take part in a tag rugby taster day hosted by Killard House School at Londonderry Park.
During the morning, Ulster Disability Officer Clive Gardiner, and coaches Sam McBurney, Ian Flack, Stephen Marshall and Trevor Octave put over eighty Year 8 and 9 pupils through the basics of what is becoming a fast growing sport for children and young adults with learning difficulties.
This year marks Killard’s tenth year participating in tag rugby and they were delighted to welcome Ulster and Ireland player Craig Gilroy along to the event, where he took time to talk to pupils about their interest in the game, sign autographs and pose for photos.
Also present was Kerry Spence, Spirit Officer with the Ulster Branch, whose role is to promote the core values of the game - Respect, Inclusivity, Integrity, Fun and Excellence - all of which were on display throughout the morning.
