The match was played in ideal conditions in front of one of the largest crowd seen at Chambers Park this season. The final failed to live up to expectations as both sides who had been free scoring in the semi finals cancelled each other out with both defences coming out on top; there were only two scoring opportunities for each side in the entire game.
The opening 15 minutes were played in the middle third of the pitch as both teams tested each others weaknesses in order to find the first score of the game. After 17 minutes, a fine break by Dungannon centre Andrew Lee took play into the Malone 22 but the defence held firm. Another Dungannon break, this time by Marcus Mulgrew, should have led to a score but he delayed his pass and the Malone defence were able to clear there lines. The first half ended scoreless with both teams trying to work each other out.
The second half started as the first finished with both teams probing to find the first score of the evening but too many basic errors cost the teams possession and territory. Eight minutes into the second half Malone were harshly penalised for a technical offside and Dungannon were awarded a penalty which outhalf Marcus Mulgrew converted for a 3-0 lead. Malone had a chance to level the scores with a penalty at the breakdown but Ben Rodgers' attempt drifted wide. The final stages of the game saw Dungannon control possession and territory and hold out to seal a narrow victory.
Afterwards in the clubhouse the medals were presented to both teams by Ulster Rugby flanker, Sean Doyle, who also awarded the Man of the Match award to Dungannon scrumhalf Ross Devlin. IRFU (Ulster Branch) President, John Robinson, handed over the Cup to Dungannon captain, Marcus Mulgrew.
