"Coming second in WXV1 is phenomenal," Tuite said. "To go from WXV3 where we were delighted with the win, to come second in WXV1 playing against the best teams in the world, it's just class. We were even cheering for England in the last game to ensure we came second, not often something we do as Irish rugby players!"
The success of the Irish team is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players and coaching staff. Tuite highlighted the significant development in the group since WXV3, stating, "We have been working so hard over the last number of years, but really since WXV3. Our coaches have been absolutely fantastic."
The squad's morale remained high throughout the tournament, even after their loss to Canada. Tuite revealed that the team went whale watching after their victory over the Black Ferns, which helped them to relax and enjoy the experience.
"It grounded us to be out with nature, spending time with each other and it gave us a bit of time to let that win sink in and spend some time outside of rugby too," she said. "We saw humpbacks and seven orcas which was incredible!"
Returning home after the tournament, Tuite reflected on the achievements of the team and the impact it has had on her and her teammates. "Getting home has really given us time to reflect on what we have achieved and really made it sink in," she said. "Getting to talk to friends, family and those in your circle really highlights the significance of what we have done."
Tuite also expressed her pride in sharing the experience with her fellow Ulster woman, Brittany Hogan. "Brittany is one of my best friends, she's a friend, a teammate, she's really in my circle so to share that win with her was amazing," she said. "She was amazing and one of the players of the match. To do something like that is special.
“As two Ulsterwomen we have played together for years, training in the rain at Newforge and Kingspan Stadium and to put on a performance like that is amazing. She’s a leader and I’m so proud of her. We always are sure to get a picture before the game, whether a funny one or serious one just to mark that we are coming along together. Hopefully a lot more to come in both green and white jerseys!"
Ireland's second-place finish in WXV1 is a major accomplishment and a sign of the progress that the team has made in recent years. As they look ahead to the upcoming Women's Six Nations and the World Cup, the players will be determined to build on their success and continue to compete at the highest level.
Ireland Women’s next game will be here at Kingspan Stadium when they take on France in the first round of the Guinness Women’s Six Nations at home, details to be confirmed.
