British & Irish Lions legend and Chairman of PRO12 Rugby, Gerald Davies, was at Kingspan Stadium today to speak at a well-attended event.
Davies toured with the Lions in 1968 and 1971 and is considered to be one of the outstanding rugby talents of all time. He is one of a small group of Welsh players to have won three Grand Slams.
Following his playing career he became an accomplished journalist, before moving into rugby administration. He was manager of the 2009 Lions tour to South Africa and is currently Chairman of the Guinness PRO12 after taking over from Andy Irvine.
At the event, which was attended by local media personnel, politicians, sponsors and Ulster Branch Committee members, Davies discussed the challenges facing law makers within the game, the structure of the PRO12 league and the need for the competition to grow revenues, and recalled some memories from his illustrious playing career.
He also spoke very highly of The Nevin Spence Centre and about the ambition which Ulster Rugby has displayed in recent years.
