Ulster Rugby is delighted to have been chosen as 1 of 16 organisations to receive an Active Belfast grant.
Active Belfast’s main aim is to help people in Belfast get healthier by being more physically active and eating more healthily. Successful projects work with a range of partners to help promote healthier lifestyles through a range of physical activity and healthy eating programmes.
The programme, entitled ‘Get Active with Ulster Rugby’ is a city-wide project based on four inter-related pillars of activity that will offer various recreational variations of rugby and is strategically linked to our Health and Wellbeing Strategy, ‘Rugby at the Heart of the Community’.
We will partner with rugby clubs, community groups and charities to engage those with little or no involvement in or access to physical activity through programmes including X7s, UR Game, Walking Rugby and Pitch Up & Play.
Participants will take part in a variety of graduated sessions designed to improve each individual’s confidence, fitness and knowledge of the breadth of activities available in their local communities. Nutritional workshops will be woven throughout the activities to promote healthy eating and positive, long-term dietary habits.
The project will commence in the coming weeks and run until March 2020, with the aim of improving health, fitness, confidence and overall wellbeing through sport.
