The opening group matches in the Gordon West Cup - for teams competing in Kukri Qualifying Leagues 3 and 4 - take place this weekend.

Current holders Holywood, along with Larne, PSNI, Ophir, Donegal and Newry should be the main challengers.

GROUP A

Armoy host Belfast High School Former Pupils at Limepark and should be strong enough to earn a victory.

Ophir play PSNI at Magowan Park, having already opened their league campaign with an emphatic 55-11 win over BHSFP. PSNI though, will start as slight favourites.

GROUP B

There will be a competitive local derby at Stormont when Civil Service take on Holywood. As holders, Holywood will fancy their chances of winning this one.

Pollock Park will play host to Lurgan versus Larne on Saturday. Lurgan opened their league programme with a 23-20 defeat to Newry. Larne will be eager to bounce back from relegation last season. Under the guidance of coach Laurence Kelly they have already won the Randalstown 15-a-side tournament but suffered a recent narrow defeat to neighbours Carrick 23-22. Larne to win.

GROUP C

In the All Donegal derby at the Dave Gallagher Memorial Park, Letterkenny entertain Donegal Town. On paper you would predict a home win for Letterkenny but Donegal sent out a strong message last Saturday when they defeated Monaghan 68-0 in their opening league game.

With only three teams in this group Londonderry YMCA have no game this week.

GROUP D

A fascinating encounter will unfold at Swellan Park when Cavan take on Monaghan. Monaghan will want to bounce back from their league defeat last Saturday.

Cavan's neighbours Virginia play the in form Newry at Deerpark, where there is a resurgence in rugby. The South Down club should earna  successful outcome.
