England started strongly and it came as no surprise when scrumhalf Jordan Burns touched down to the left posts following one of England's more enterprising attacks. Olver missed the conversion but the same player landed a penalty in the 21st minute to increase their lead to 8-0.
Ireland suffered a blow when flanker Joe Bercis was sent to the sin bin and England took full advantage during his time off the pitch. Ross Moriarty powered over on the left for a try just past the half hour mark and England were good value for their 13-0 interval advantage.
Irish centres Peter Robb and Rory O'Loughlin combined well and the latter crossed for a try, converted with relative ease by Conor McKeon to reduce the arrears.
Indeed, matters became even more interesting in the 55th minute when England fullback Nathan Earle failed to deal with a tricky kick, allowing Robb to pounce for an unconverted score.
The momentum was very much with Ireland at this point and when McKeon registered a breathtaking drop goal with two minutes of normal time to play, his side held a 15-13 lead. But Olver’s equally well attempt gave his side a hard earned triumph in spite of some late pressure from Ireland.
The Ireland U19s have a second match to play against France on Saturday, with Montargis' Stade Champfleuri the venue (kick off 3.30pm Irish time).
