Ulster were forced into some changes because of player unavailability but were bolstered by the return from injury of another handful.
Munster outhalf Ben Martin was in scoring form for the visitors, accumulating ten points in the first 15 minutes. A well struck penalty in windy weather was followed up by a converted try after Ulster were blocked down attempting to clear their lines.
Ulster had to make two changes up front just before half time with Jamie Johnston and Gareth McCoy replacing Michael Rainey and Gareth Fitzpatrick respectively.
The score was unchanged for the rest of the half with Munster playing all the rugby, Martin narrowly missing a drop goal attempt and he also had a penalty bounce off the uprights.
Half time: Ulster 0 - 10 Munster
After the break, Ulster began to show more cohesion and having taken over at outhalf, David O’Hara kicked an excellent drop goal followed by a penalty on 55 minutes. At 6-10, the crowd were thinking that a comeback could be on the cards.
The wind advantage was slightly reduced when Ulster hooker Mal Allister found himself sitting out the end of the third quarter. But Munster responded through captain Dan McCabe who stretched the lead after a powerful surge to score in the corner.
Ulster replied again with a penalty but that was the end of their scoring for the day as Munster kicked into high gear. They registered two late converted tries through Brian Downey and Rob Carroll.
Alasdair McKee's squad must now turn their minds to next Saturday's match against Leinster at Wicklow, where an away win would see them finish at worst, second in the series.
