Kingspan Stadium hosts 'SAFE' Training Event

Ulster Rugby hosted a successful SAFE (Standard Approach to On-Field Emergencies) training event last Sunday (23 rd August) at Kingspan Stadium. Forty-three participants including physiotherapists, orthopaedic surgeons, emergency department doctors, sports medicine specialists, GP's and ambulance personnel took part in an intensive training day covering the management of injuries, including concussion, spinal injuries, sudden cardiac arrest, major trauma and fractures. The attendance list included the doctors, physiotherapists and ambulance staff who help look after our Senior, 'A' and underage representative teams, as well as club and school attached doctors and physiotherapists.    The training was provided by the IRFU, in conjunction with local specialists. The event was supported financially by the Ulster Independent Clinic.    Ulster Rugby's Medical Director, Dr Michael Webb, commented, "The IRFU SAFE rugby programme provides gold standard training in the management of rugby emergencies. The training outlined a systematic approach to serious and life threatening injuries. "I'm delighted that with the benefit of financial support from the Ulster Independent Clinic that we have been able to train such a large number of healthcare professionals in the expert management of these injuries. "While it was a long and intensive day for all involved, everyone went home with their skills and knowledge suitably updated and that is very reassuring."
