Letterkenny RFC have been announced as the latest Ulster Carpets club of the month award winners, having been recognised as the club with the best hospitality / welcome.
Letterkenny Girls were nominated for best hospitality by Virginia RFC following a recent trip to Donegal where they felt very well received and welcomed by all at the club.
The chairman of the Youth Committee, Mr. Paul Harte, felt that based on the kind words from Virginia in which they expressed how well the girls were treated and how they mingled together after the game was a credit to the club.
The award was presented to the girls from Letterkenny RFC at a training session hosted by Rugby Development Officer Shaun Bloomfield. As part of the award the club also received a bag of Ulster Carpets rugby balls and 30 tickets to an Ulster Rugby fixture.
Following the session, Shaun commented:
"It’s great to have the continued support from Ulster Carpets, who have backed youth rugby in Ulster so well in recent years. Letterkenny are a club moving forward and developing some very talented young players, both male and female. I was really impressed with the standard of the girls training tonight and credit must go to their coaches for the work they put in."
Letterkenny Girls Coach Alan McCrea said:
"We are very grateful to both the Ulster Branch and Ulster Carpets for this award. One of the problems we have in Donegal is that we are far away from everyone so it’s nice to get acknowledged for looking after teams who travel big distances."
The club's U18 Girls captain Hannah Callaghan also commented:
"It is a great honour to play here at Letterkenny Rugby club. There is great respect between all the players and coaches. It’s a really enjoyable club to play with."
U15 captain Sarah Bundschu added:
"A big thank you to Ulster Carpets for this award. It’s great to be recognised for all the hard work the coaches and players are putting in and I'm sure this will help progress the club on even more."
