Local School Benefit From Tag Rugby Programme

Cregagh Primary School P7 pupils have just completed a Tag Rugby programme with IRFU Ulster Branch & Malone RFC Club Community Rugby Officer Sam McBurney.

24 girls and boys enjoyed learning new skills despite the severe weather conditions over the past few weeks.

The programme culminated with a team going to a Primary School blitz hosted by Malone Rugby Club with five other schools who enjoyed a similar programme.

Following the blitz, the school was delighted to receive a ‘Play Rugby’ kit from Ulster Rugby, enabling them to continue their rugby experience.

IRFU Ulster Branch Community Rugby Manager, Barry Willis, commented: “The tag rugby programme offers Primary school children the opportunity to develop news skills in a fun and safe environment. By all accounts, all the participants at Cregagh Primary School thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hopefully they will continue to play rugby at school and possibly for a club.

“The Tag Rugby programme is a great way to introduce children to the game and it’s really pleasing that local schools are benefiting from the expertise of our Club Community Rugby Officers. We have over 20 CCROs at various clubs across the Province and hopefully the scheme will help to bring through the next generation of stars for Ulster Rugby."
