Ulster collected a bonus-point with a resounding win over Edinburgh at BT Murrayfield on Monday evening, making it eight wins in eight games in the Guinness PRO14.
The visitors made a scintillating start, with John Andrew making a burst down the right wing, passing inside to John Cooney who then sent Stewart Moore in for his third try of the season. Cooney duly slotted the conversion.
Ulster’s second score came through John Andrew coming through a charging Ulster maul to barge over. Cooney’s difficult conversion attempt was just off-target.
Marcell Coetzee was instrumental in forcing turnovers, allowing Ian Madigan to pin Edinburgh inside their 22.
John Cooney was next to get his name on the score sheet, spotting a gap and picking up off the back of an Ulster ruck to dart over the Edinburgh line. His conversion stretched Ulster’s lead to 19.
The hosts pulled one back through full-back, Jack Blain after sustained Edinburgh pressure. Nathan Chamberlain was accurate with the conversion.
Edinburgh got more of a foothold in the game at the beginning of the second half, when Jack Blain got his second try of the evening, with Chamberlain converting.
Edinburgh looked set to level the scores when Jamie Farndale collected the ball after it hit the post from a Chamberlain penalty attempt, but the winger was in front of the fly-half when the ball was kicked.
Ulster bounced back in the 59th minute when Jordi Murphy bundled over from the back of a maul to bag the bonus point, Cooney nailing the conversion.
Cooney got his second try of the evening after Ian Madigan made a lovely offload out the back to Sam Carter who went on a thunderous run, before putting Cooney in under the posts, and Cooney slotted the conversion.
John Andrew also got a brace in the 73rd minute after pouncing over from a superb Ulster maul. The flags stayed down for Johnston’s tricky conversion attempt.
Andrew’s work wasn’t done for the evening, as he bagged a hat-trick for the Ulster men with the clock in the red, diving over a pile of bodies on the line to ground the ball and seal the win in convincing fashion.

Superb performance tonight. Murrayfield is a tricky place to go, and we went and controlled the game. We must take our form into Europe now.
