Ulster back row star Sean Reidy has admitted his disappointment at not taking a bonus point back from the trip to Treviso, but insisted the team was in a good place following their 11-22 win.
Reidy put in an impressive display at Stadio Monigo as tries from Luke Marshall, Ruan Pienaar and Rob Herring secured a solid win for Les Kiss’ side.
As expected, the Italian outfit provided a difficult challenge:
“It was pretty tough going out there. We knew Treviso were going to be tough on their home paddock and with their never-give-up attitude. We were trying to chase that bonus point at the end but fell short. At the end of the day we got four points so we are happy enough,” said the Ireland international.
The warm climes in Italy meant playing conditions were tricky, but Reidy wasn’t for making excuses and instead blamed a lack of precision for missing out on the all-important fourth try.
“We are used to it being a bit cooler than that but it’s something we had to adapt to. It wasn’t too bad - we’ve played in similar conditions before and we had the pre-season camp in Portugal. The boys were fit enough but we just made too many mistakes.
“In the second half we really tried to push on but we had a few handling errors and a few missed opportunities. Although, it was our first away game of the season and we’re two wins from two game so we’ve got to be happy with that.
“The travelling support was awesome. Every time we come over to Italy or France there is always a large contingent following us so a big thank you to them and hopefully we did them proud.”
Nine points from a possible 10 is a good place to be and the 27-year-old believes the squad is moving in the right direction.
“There’s a really good buzz around the squad. Obviously there are internationals slotting into the team each week after being away on tour with Ireland. There’s a good vibe and Kissy is creating something special here - all of the boys are buying into it and really enjoying it.”
Having banked four points, Reidy already turned his attentions to the visit of Scarlets on Friday night and another challenging encounter:
“If you just look at their team, they have got class all around the park. It will be good to get home and playing in front of our home crowd. We always love playing at Kingspan (Stadium) and it will be another big challenge for us,” explained Reidy.
