While delighted to make it three wins from three in the Heineken Champions Cup, Sean Reidy is well aware that there are areas for improvement when Ulster make the trip over to Twickenham Stoop for the return fixture against Harlequins on Friday night.
“We left a lot of points out there and probably got dominated at the breakdown a little bit by Robshaw and the other back-rowers so it’s important we go over there and really take it to them.
“They slowed up our ball and got a lot of turnovers; we got quite sloppy in the end. We certainly created opportunities here and made some good carries but then couldn’t finish those two-on-ones and we were a bit sloppy with a few off-loads.
“We had a pretty harsh video review and we’ve got to improve on a lot of things. We have to front up over there.”
Although he feels there were some lost opportunities in the Round 3 tie at Kingspan, the openside flanker is at pains to stress that Ulster are not far off making a complete 80-minute performance.
“When that last pass goes wrong, it’s quite frustrating but on the flip side, if two or three of those went to hand it could have been a different story.”
Immediately after the game on Saturday, Head Coach Dan McFarland said that if Ulster are to win the away game at The Stoop, they have to be more physical and reduce the number of lost turnovers, to which the Auckland native agrees.
“At the end of the day, I just don’t think we can be that complacent going over there and we can’t expect teams to come here and roll over,” he said. “You saw how much energy and enthusiasm they brought to that first 20, 30, 40 minutes. We’ve got to do exactly the same over there.”
The Ulster squad and Reidy will be approaching the Round 4 game as a completely separate encounter to the one in which they recorded a 25-24 victory against the English Premiership side at Kingspan.
“Basically, it can be two totally different games. You might play them at home and put on a relatively good performance. Then when you go in front of their home crowd, their home supporters, it can be a totally different game.”
