Sean Reidy says Ulster will target a bonus-point victory over Ospreys on Saturday to guarantee a Guinness PRO12 play-off spot, but he is wary of the threat posed by the Welsh side.
The 26-year-old, who has hit a rich vein of form in recent months, says: “They are a class outfit and they did a good job on Cardiff Blues at the weekend. We know we have to match them physically and hopefully get the result.”
Ulster must match or better the result Scarlets produce against Munster at Thomond Park in order to secure fourth position, which means a bonus point win could be required at Liberty Stadium...
“The bonus point is at the back of your mind but you don’t want to think too far ahead or you will just be chasing things and doing silly offloads and stuff. If you do the basics well then I’m sure the bonus point will come down the track.
“It’s a critical time of the year so every opportunity we get we have to grab it with two hands.”
The Kiwi has spent most of his Ulster career at openside flanker but enjoyed starting in the number 8 jersey in last Saturday's 30-6 win over Leinster at Kingspan Stadium.
“It was good to play there and I will play wherever the team needs me. The boys enjoyed it. We played with a lot of confidence and it was a well-rounded performance and there is a bit of a buzz around the camp this week.
“Leinster has a world class forward pack with a lot of international caps, but our boys stepped up and performed, we carried well, and I think we won the physical battle. We just focused on our own game and doing the basics well at the breakdown,” he added.
Tomorrow, Reidy and his back row colleagues will face an in-form Ospreys loose forward trio, well-renowned for their ability to contest the ruck area, but he insists a well-rounded team effort is needed to secure victory:
“In Europe and the PRO12 you are playing against world class players week in and week out so you just have to focus on your own game. If we all pull together and play well as a team, we’ll have a very good shot at getting the job done.”
