As the senior team makes a #ReturnToRugby, we spoke to Jordi Murphy on the new safety measures in place, how it feels to be back training together at Kingspan Stadium, and what it is that players are most looking forward to in the weeks and months ahead.

It’s been great to be back at the Kingspan over the last couple of weeks. Every week, we have grown our numbers, and it’s good to have a bit of structure again. The novelty wore-off after a couple of weeks of being at home and having to train on your own – so being able to train, even in small groups, has been brilliant. A bit of interaction with the boys and to have goals in mind!
Are the safety protocols having an impact on training?
Obviously, we have had to adhere to all the measures – and rightly so. This has included training in smaller groups, including in the gym environment. The players have been adhering to the safety protocols, and we are making sure to clean-up after ourselves and to be vigilant. We don’t want to have any setbacks, so everyone knows it’s really important and has it in the back of their mind the whole time.
What is it you’re most looking forward about a #ReturnToRugby?
I’m looking forward to playing again! With a couple of games in mind now – including Connacht and Leinster in a couple of weeks' time - it is really exciting. We finished the season pretty abruptly, so I’m looking forward to getting back into it, and just knowing there are plenty of games to be played is pretty exciting.
How are you feeling now that we have a date to work towards for Ulster’s Heineken Champions Cup QF match against Toulouse?
It’s great to have a date now against Toulouse. Things were up in the air for quite a while – but we booked our place in the QF months ago, so it’s great to have something to work towards, and hopefully we can get the job done over there.
Earlier in the year it was announced that you signed a two-year contract extension. Can you tell us how you’re feeling about that?
Really excited. I have had a great first two years. The fans, playing squad, and the coaches have really taken me in. Myself and my partner, Laura, really enjoy living here in Belfast, so I am looking forward to the next two years and hopefully we can win a bit of silverware to top everything off!
