Ah You featured 112 times for the Galway side before moving to Ulster in the summer of 2016. This week we caught up with him before he heads back down the road to face his old side for the first time on Friday night...
“It will be good to be back at the Sportsground,” says Ah You. “All be it in a different jersey. Connacht will be really up for this game, so I’m excited to play them.
“To be honest, I haven’t kept in touch with any of the guys, moving up here was like a fresh start for me and I have moved on so it’s just another day at the office.”
The tight head prop has proven to be a physical asset for the men in white, featuring in four out of five Guinness PRO12 games to date:
“I feel like I am going well at the minute, I am in a good place and I am ready to put in a massive effort in Galway.
“I am enjoying working with Les, I feel like he is getting the best out of me and I am trying to give him as much as I can. The players here have been great and have really welcomed me into the side, I am really enjoying playing alongside them.
“I feel like I have settled in really well to Ulster, my wife and kids are very happy here which makes things easier. I don’t have to worry about things off the pitch so can focus on what happens on it.”
Ulster has got off to a promising start with five wins from five, something Ah You and his team mates must be delighted with…
“Excluding last week, where we got lucky, we have got off to a great start. We are going well, trucking along, the buzz within camp is excellent and everyone is trying to work hard for each other. There is a lot of competition within the squad for places which makes it a very healthy environment.”
Having joined Connacht in 2010, Ah You has years of experience running out for this weekend’s rivals:
“Les is well clued in to what Connacht are doing already but I have been offering some advice on what I did there over the past few seasons and helping where I can. At the end of the day it’s not so much about what they do but what we do on the field that really matters.
“They didn’t get off to the best start but will be puffing their chests up after a win last weekend against Edinburgh. We will go down there and fight as hard as we can to continue this winning streak.”
