Schools’ Twinning Virtual Stadium Tour

The Ulster Rugby Virtual Stadium tours have been created by Ulster Rugby staff working on SEUPB’s Peace IV-funded Sport Uniting Communities programme. The SUC programme is a collaborative initiative between Ulster Rugby, IFA and Ulster GAA to use sport as a means to bring people from different community backgrounds together promoting peace and reconciliation. Traditionally, our Schools’ Twinning programme would have welcomed 1200 young people through the gates of Kingspan Stadium each year to see ‘behind the scenes’ at Ulster Rugby, with a tour of the stands, gym, changing rooms, pitch and Nevin Spence education centre. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this programme has had to be adapted and is now running online. The stadium tour video and accompanying workbook are aimed at P5-P7 classes but could be used for pupils of a similar age if schools desired. The video is just under 6 minutes long. The Sparky Workbook has a quiz based on information provided within the video as well as a classroom activity which can be used in conjunction with a twinned school from a different community background. There are also additional resources for teachers to use at their own discretion such as ‘Spot the Difference’, word search, kit design and a crossword. A teacher’s guide will help assist school staff with each activity and how to access the Stadium Tour video. If you have any further questions or would like to register your school’s interest in taking part in the Ulster Rugby Virtual Stadium tour programme please contact Daniel.carson@ulsterrugby.com or Jennifer.boyd@ulsterrugby.com.
