As he settles into week four of pre-season training, Sean Reidy gives the fans a quick update...
It’s been an enjoyable few weeks. There are some fresh faces in the squad and the guys have been busting their asses. The coaches have been good and they are really challenging us so it’s so far so good!
I’ve been here for four years now and I’m really settled. Coaches and players come and go but I’ve really embraced the changes, especially this season.
The coaches have turned it on this pre-season, the guys are learning a lot - there is a lot to take in, but the boys have stepped up, even the young guys. Everyone is pushing themselves to be the best they can be.
Last season was a tough one for us all, there were a lot of things out of our control, as well as times when we weren’t playing that well. But we finished the season on a high note with a few good wins and qualification for the Champions Cup.
This pre-season there is a big emphasis on driving our own high standards as a playing group and not relying on outside factors, we set the standards here and all the players must be committed to them.
As a senior squad member, the younger guys look to us to lead by example. There is a core group of us who have been here for a few seasons now, and it’s up to us to help push the guys to be the best they can be every single day. If everyone keeps working hard and stays humble then it should be a good season for us.
As a group, we are eager to get the season underway and to put our best foot forward. I just want Ulster to be as successful as possible and I want everyone to enjoy playing rugby here and put in good team performances. We were guilty last year of not being as consistent as we should have been, but if everyone plays their part, we will have a successful 2018/19 season.
