Sky Sports 'living For Sport' Program Comes To Derry/londonderry

On Wednesday 19th November around 200 boys and girls from seven primary schools around the Derry City area took part in the Sky Sports 'Living for Sport' event at Templemore Sports Centre. The children had an opportunity to try a number of sports including Rugby, Cricket, Boxing, multi-skills and Judo as well as getting some information on healthy living. Ulster Rugby Community staff, David Funston, Nathan Deeney and Shaun Bloomfield where on site to deliver taster rugby sessions and promote the various opportunities for boys and girls to get involved in local rugby.

Sky Sports 'Living for Sport' is a free initiative open to all British and Irish schools that use sport stars and the skills learned through sport to help young people build confidence and life skills. It’s not about finding the next sporting superstar; it's about using the skills learned through sport to change behaviour and increase academic attainment, whatever your athletic ability. It also aims to encourage young people to find a sport that they enjoy and give them an opportunity to join their local club.

Nathan and David's involvement has been made possible due to the generous support of the NI Executive and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure through the ‘Promoting Equality, Tackling Poverty and Social Exclusion through Sport’ programme.
