Special Needs Tag Rugby Blitz At Magee College

Pupils from Ardnashee School and College (Londonderry), Knockavoe School (Strabane) and St. Bernadette's (Letterkenny) attended a tag rugby blitz for special needs schools that was hosted by Ulster Rugby at Magee College on Wednesday 26th November.

The blitz was the culmination of a 6 week programme that has been delivered at all of the schools by Ulster Rugby staff. In perfect weather conditions forty five pupils and staff took part in a series of skills and fitness sessions followed by inter schools games.

Community Rugby Officer Shaun Bloomfield said: “This is an exciting time for rugby in the North West. All of our coaches that have been involved in the programme have thoroughly enjoyed working with the schools. It is our intention to continue to develop special needs rugby in this area."

Raymond McCann from Ardnashee School and College stated: “The pupils have enjoyed their time with Ulster Rugby, for most of them it has been their first involvement with rugby. Today has been a wonderful experience for everybody involved.”

Tag Rugby is a non-contact sport that is an enjoyable, fun and active way, to keep both healthy and fit. It can be played by men, women and children of all ages and all abilities.
