The cold weather could not diminish the high spirits of the pupils as they enjoyed the coaching session that was followed by a game of tag rugby involving both schools.
Ulster Rugby Community Rugby Officer, Darren McGuigan, who has delivered a number of coaching sessions at the schools, commented: “It is great to see the players enjoy both the coaching and the game time.”
Mark Cunningham from Ceara School thanked Portadown RFC for hosting the event and added that it was very evident that all of the pupils enjoyed the experience: “some of my pupils were building on the skills they have picked up while working with the Portadown Panthers.”
Willie Gribben from the Portadown Panthers, who was also in attendance, thanked ASDA for the goody bags that were provided for the players and extended an invitation to the pupils who wished to join the Panthers.
Portadown Panthers play Tag Rugby which is a non-contact version of the game for males and females, aged 6+ who have a Learning Disability. Training takes place on Saturday mornings from 9.30-10.30am in Chambers Park, Portadown.
