Sport Uniting Communities: Have a go

During the COVID-19 break, Community Sports Development officers from the 'Sport Uniting Communities’ programme challenged clubs from across all 3 sports to “Have a go” and test their skills against each other. Taking on the first challenge was Clonduff GAC, Cooke WRFC and Crusaders FC. With over 30 participants taking part the skills tested from each sport where the IFA’s passing for accuracy with the inside step, the GAA punt pass and the Ulster Rugby pass for accuracy. Sports Development Officers delivered a virtual coaching session before challenging the clubs to “Have a go” and record their successes. Community Sports Development Officers from the project highlighted the importance of continuing this work and look forward to being back on the road soon delivering the PEACE programme. “Although we have not been able to physically bring all three sports together during the pandemic, we have working hard to keep community links positive through our sports with this just being one of the many initiatives we have reworked.  The response we received from Clonduff GAC, Cooke WRFC and Crusaders FC for our first challenge was excellent and they got involved with no hesitation. Hopefully in the not so distant future we will be able to bring these clubs together and build on this partnership”.
