St. Rose's Girls Continuing Their Rugby Education At Ravenhill

In September 2013, girls from St. Rose's Dominican College in the Beechmount area of West Belfast had hardly seen a rugby ball never mind handled one.

Since then, through the an Ulster Rugby coaching programme, they have learnt how to play Tag and Leprechaun rugby, played single match games against other schools, taken part in various multi-team Blitz tournaments and entered the Girls Schools' Cup.

The highlight of their new found sporting prowess was a trip to Ravenhill on Friday night for the Ulster v Newport Gwent Dragons RaboDirect PRO12 game, where they all had a great time and cheered on Ulster very enthusiastically.

Their rugby experience continues with a Play Rugby event and Girls Blitz at Belfast Harlequins later this month and more coaching from Ulster rugby's West Belfast Community Rugby Coach, Roy Lawton, in the coming weeks.

This programme has been made possible due to the generous support of the NI Executive and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure through the ‘Promoting Equality, Tackling Poverty and Social Exclusion through Sport' programme.
