Three Enniskillen schools qualify for Girls Regional Event

Over the previous few months Community Rugby Officer Rob Watson has been introducing tag rugby into the girls' schools in Enniskillen.

The first of two blitz days was run at the start of February; this provided schools with the opportunity to gain some experience of playing and also learn the rules of Tag Rugby in a competition format.

The weather conditions on that day were horrendous but the girls played on with great skill and determination and really improved as the morning went on. It was a great credit to them that the morning was such success.

Last Friday the main regional event was run, with over 80 girls taking part on a day that the weather was perfect for some entertaining running rugby. After a slow start the players knowledge of the game improved which helped make the games much faster and quicker. Nearly all of the games finished with just one score separating the teams.

As with previous years, Enniskillen Collegiate produced some very good rugby but were pushed all the way by the Mount Lourdes and St. Fanchea's teams.

Thosethree schools are now eligible to go forward to the regional finals in Omagh, hoping to qualify for the final at Ravenhill.

Enniskillen RFC wishes the best of luck to the Collegiate to regain the title they held for three years running and lost last year, Mount Lourdes, the first Fermanagh school to win the tournament and St. Fanchea's, who will be aiming to get their name on the trophy for the first time.

Enniskillen RFC will be hosting coaching sessions for 13-17 year old girls every Tuesday for the remainder of the rugby season. Training will start at 7pm and finish shortly after 8pm. The rugby is open to all girls of some or no experience and is totally free of charge.
