Ulster players take the long road to Donegal

When the Ulster squad turned up for training on Tuesday morning (30th July), they had expected to be jumping on a bus and heading to their mini-camp in Donegal.

However, Head Coach Mark Anscombe had a surprise in store.

Instead of the bus, the players were tasked with making their own way to Donegal – by almost any means possible. They weren’t allowed to travel in the own car and they also had to complete a series of tasks along the way.

The tasks included calling in at a local Bank of Ireland, being pictured with a Mazda car, buying clothes from House of Fraser, traveling on an Ulster Bus and taking on the job of an employee in a Hastings Hotel.

The players were split into teams of six. The day was designed as a team bonding exercise as Mark Anscombe explains here.

A huge number of photographs were posted on Twitter using the hashtag #fleefly and #suftumnation

Points for the number of tasks completed as well as originality and creativity will be totaled and the winning team will be announced to the squad on Wednesday evening.

Ulster Rugby will hold an open-training session at Donegal RFC on Wednesday 31st July (10.30am – 12pm) and Strabane RFC on Thursday 1st August (11.00am – 12.30pm).
