Ulster Rugby Domestic Rugby Awards: Winners revealed in virtual ceremony

This week, Ulster Rugby has been recognising and celebrating the best of the domestic game across the province with a virtual awards ceremony. The nominees and winners were revealed each day on our official Twitter and Facebook channels throughout the week. The full list of nominees and winners is as follows: Monday 22 June
  • Referee of the Year – Chris Busby
  • Dorrington B Faulkner (Services to Rugby) Award – Ross Workman, Omagh Academicals RFC
Tuesday 23 June Ulster Carpets Youth Player of the Year
  • Nominees: John Glasgow, City of Armagh RFC, Sam Glasgow, City of Armagh RFC, Jack Milton, Ballyclare RFC
  • Winner – Jack Milton, Ballyclare RFC
Wednesday 24 June Deloitte Ulster U18 Girls Player of the Year
  • Nominees: Ava Fannin, Virginia RFC, Rachel McGee, Ballyshannon RFC, Toni Macartney, Larne RFC
  • Winner – Ava Fannin, Virginia RFC
Thursday 25 June Danske Bank Girls Schools’ Player of the Year
  • Nominees: Sophie Barrett, Erne Integrated College, India Daley, Enniskillen Royal Grammar School, Lucy Thompson, Enniskillen Royal Grammar School
  • Winner – Lucy Thompson, Enniskillen Royal Grammar School
Danske Bank Boys Schools’ Player of the Year
  • Nominees: Ben Carson, Wallace High School, Reuben Crothers, Wallace High School, Nathan Doak, Wallace High School, Jude Postlethwaite, Royal Belfast Academical Institution
  • Winner – Nathan Doak, Wallace High School
Friday 26 June Ken Goodall Club Player of the Year
  • Nominees: Ross Adair, Ballynahinch RFC, Shea O’Brien, City of Armagh RFC, Nigel Simpson, City of Armagh RFC.
  • Winner – Shea O’Brien, City of Armagh RFC
Gary Leslie, IRFU Ulster Branch President, commented: “Unfortunately we are not in a position this year to hold our usual end-of-season awards ceremony, which is eagerly anticipated by those involved in both the professional and domestic game. However, it is important that we still acknowledge the outstanding performances and contributions of those involved in club and school rugby, in what was a season prematurely cancelled due to the onset of coronavirus. “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate those who did achieve some form of success on the rugby pitches this season, and also to thank all the superb volunteers for their ongoing service to our game. “All our domestic rugby award winners are well deserved and I send them my warmest congratulations. I look forward to hopefully seeing you all again soon, when it is safe for rugby to resume.” The Ulster Men’s, Women’s and Academy team awards will take place at a later date.
