Ulster Rugby, in assistance with funding from the Department of Culture Arts & Leisure (DCAL), recently completed a three-month programme focused on participation growth in non-traditional rugby areas.
The PETPSE (Promoting Equality, Tackling Poverty and Social Exclusion) Programme ran from January to March 2016, and had a huge impact, engaging with 1645 total participants.
One of the key priorities of the programme was on female participation, and this resulted in 135 new female club players and the establishment of 12 new female U12 teams.
Another key focus was on disability participation, with the programme engaging some 270 disability players during the three months.
Funding from DCAL also facilitated the installation of 5 community gyms throughout the Province.
Enniskillen RFC was one of the clubs who benefited, and their club President Norman Richmond commented:
“I would really like to thank DCAL and Ulster Rugby for the funding and assistance to provide us with this fantastic new gym facility, which will be of huge benefit not just to all our club playing members, but also to the general wellbeing of those in our local community.”
