The exciting 23-year-old, who can play at fly-half, centre and full-back, is known for his playmaking ability in attack, a relentless work-rate and ruthless accuracy from the kicking tee.
Benson has come through the Quins’ Academy system and made an immediate impression on his senior debut as an Academy player, kicking a last-minute conversion to defeat Northampton Saints in the Premiership Cup back in November 2021.
He has continued to develop well at The Stoop, making his PREM debut for the club in November 2024.
Last season, the former Cambridge University student starred in a standout 23-12 victory against Saracens at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in March 2025, where he showcased his goal-kicking ability in a Player of the Match performance.
This season, he scored his first try in the Investec Champions Cup, in a 68-14 Pool Stage victory over French side Bayonne.
Irish-Qualified through family connections in Belfast, Benson has also represented both England U18s and England U20s as well being selected in a wider England A squad, earlier this season.
Commenting on the news, Benson said:
“It feels like a fantastic time to be joining Ulster Rugby. The team are playing an entertaining brand of rugby, which I am excited to be a part of.
"I have strong family connections to the province through my mum, who grew up in Belfast, and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Ulster Rugby’s General Manager, Rory Best, said:
“We are delighted to be signing a player of Jamie’s quality as we build our squad ahead of next season.
“He has shown a lot of potential for Harlequins, performing well when given the opportunity and making an impact at PREM level and in the Champions Cup.
“Jamie brings quality and competition to our fly-half depth, and has that added strength of bringing versatility to the backline at inside centre or full-back.
“At 23 years old, he joins us with his best years ahead of him and we can’t wait to welcome him to Ulster this summer.”
