Ulster Rugby Staff And Volunteers Attend Safe Rugby Training

In preparation for what will be a busy summer programme of Rugby Development, 17 Volunteers and Ulster Rugby staff members undertook the IRFU’s one day SAFE Rugby (Standard Approach to Field Emergencies) Level 1 training course yesterday at Kingspan Stadium.

Running from 9am to 4pm, the course included basic lifesaving skills such as the use of a defibrillator, dealing with concussion identification & management, spinal management, fractures/joint injuries and other common medical emergencies which could potentially arise from sport.

Attendees had the opportunities to observe, assess and then practice their approach to these situations in small groups, preparing them for typical rugby injuries.

Kerry Spence (Volunteer and Policy Development Officer) who attended the SAFE course yesterday said: “It was great and I think it would be extremely beneficial to top up your skills with a session like this every year. The trainers were really helpful and took time to demonstrate and explain every step of the process. I feel a lot more confident in being able to assess and react to injury in the stadium or on the pitch now.”

With the new rugby season approaching have you considered the provision of first aid and emergency medical care at training and on match days at your Club or School?
