OLT, which is based in Creggan Estate, Derry/Londonderry is one of two from Northern Ireland that have been selected to receive three years of funding to increase community participation and improve wellbeing as part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games legacy.
Fourteen is a £3.5m programme funded by Spirit of 2012, a charity set up by the Big Lottery Fund to connect events to communities across the country; tackling disadvantage by supporting opportunities in sport, physical activity, culture and the arts, volunteering and social action.
OLT will be supported by delivery partners (of which Ulster Rugby is one) to develop and achieve a three year plan which will increase community participation in ways that meet local needs, aspirations or shortfall in their areas.
Ulster Rugby has been working with City of Derry RFC and The Old Library Trust to help develop rugby as a sporting option in the area and there participation in the Programme is an extension of this process.
Ulster Rugby Coaches Shaun Bloomfield and Joe Gallanagh ran a fun Introduction to rugby session for local school children who attended the launch to give the enthusiastic participants a taste of rugby.
