A round up of Danske Bank Ulster Schools' Medallion Shield, Plate, Bowl and Trophy games; 2nd XV and 3rd XV Cup and Plate matches which were played last week in the lead up to a range of Medallion Shield and Plate games, as well as one 1st XV friendly game played on Saturday. There was also one Danske Bank Ulster Schools' Bowl replay game played midweek.
Tuesday 9th February:
Portadown College 17, Friends’ School Lisburn 0 (Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate QF)
Foyle and Londonderry College 26, Carrickfergus Grammar School 0 (Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy SF)

Grosvenor Grammar School 29, Portadown College 12 (Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Bowl QF replay)

Down High School 3, Ballyclare High School 9 (Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup SF) Arrangements for the final of this competition are to be confirmed.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2nd XV Plate semi-final, Sullivan Upper defeated Omagh Academy by 32-0. Rory Jemphrey scored three tries as well as kicking two conversions and a penalty for Sullivan, while Nameer Shazsed and Andy Weir scored one try each.
On Thursday 11th February a Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate quarter-final game involving Sullivan Upper and Banbridge Academy was played in Holywood. The Sullivan Upper team won the game by 45 points to nil.
Meanwhile, on the same afternoon, Dalriada School hosted Regent House in the semi-final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl competition. Dalriada came out on top by 17 points to nil.
On Friday 12th February, Royal School, Armagh hosted Ballymena Academy in the replay of their Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rd XV Plate Round 1 game. Ballymena Academy won the replay by 22-5 and will now face Campbell College in the quarter-final of the competition.
Wallace High School defeated Dalriada School by 22-7 in the quarter-final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rd XV Plate competition. The Wallace High School team will now travel to play Ballyclare High School in the semi-final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rd XV Plate competition.
On the same afternoon, Belfast Royal Academy hosted Coleraine Grammar School in the first of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield quarter-final games. Both teams were missing a number of front line players for the game but the players that came in as replacements did not let their teams down. BRA won the game by 31-0 with U14 player, Rob Sturgess, scoring one try, captain, Tom Stewart scoring one try and “Man of the Match” Brandon Hassan, scoring a hat trick. Daniel Logan was successful with three of his five conversion kicks.
The Royal School Dungannon Medallion team hosted Limavady Grammar School in the quarter-final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate competition on Friday 12th February. The Dungannon team won the game by 13-7 with “Man of the Match” Luke McMullan scoring all thirteen points for his team.
On Saturday 13th February three Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield games were played:
Ballyclare High School hosted Royal Belfast Academical Institution in a game that Belfast Inst won by 55-0. Wallace High School travelled to play Omagh Academy and came away with a 31-7 victory. Methodist College played Royal School, Armagh at Pirrie Park and won the game by 19-10.
In the final Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate quarter-final game played on Saturday 13th February Campbell College Belfast defeated Rainey Endowed School by 47-0.
The second Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl semi-final game took place on Saturday 13th February in Enniskillen when Portora Royal School hosted Bangor Grammar. The Bangor team won the game by 42-0 and will play Dalriada School in the final. Arrangements for this final are to be confirmed.
The second Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy semi-final featuring Grosvenor Grammar School and Cambridge House Grammar School was postponed due to an unplayable pitch. The replay of this game will be confirmed as soon as possible with the winners due to play Foyle and Londonderry College in the final.

There was one 1st XV friendly game played on Saturday 13th February when Regent House entertained Carrickfergus Grammar School. Both teams used the game as an opportunity to use extended squads and a number of players made their 1st XV debuts. Regent won the game by 61-7. The RHS team scored first half tries through Matthew Stanex, Rory Jackson, Ryan Colwell and Lewis English. Robbie Johnston converted all four. The Carrickfergus Grammar School team played with great commitment and scored a fine converted try through Fionn McCormack .
The second half saw Regent run in five more tries with David Jamison scoring a hat trick and Ryan McCarroll and Josh Crossan touching down for one try each. Robbie Johnston was successful with four out of five conversions in the second half of the game.
The Sullivan Upper Rugby Staff have been overwhelmed with messages of support for their 1st XV coach, Willie Anderson, and their 1st XV captain, Chris Jordan, both of whom ended up in hospital during their Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup Round 3 game on Saturday 6th February. Both Willie and Chris are making good progress from their perspective medical and injury setbacks and are grateful for the many messages of support they have received.
