Ulster supporter to walk to Aviva Stadium for IRFU Charitable Trust

Ulster supporter Michael Dickson has pledged to walk from Kingspan Stadium to Aviva Stadium in advance of Ulster’s Heineken Champions Cup quarter-final against Leinster later this month, in order to raise awareness and funds for the IRFU Charitable Trust. The Trust was formed in 1978 to assist severely injured rugby players in their everyday lives, and help to restore their confidence and independence. There are currently 36 seriously injured players registered with the Charitable Trust in Ireland, most of whom are wheelchair bound and have some form of permanent paralysis. Commenting ahead of his walk, Michael said: “Rugby gives huge pleasure to millions of us worldwide. Unfortunately, there is a downside; in a minute number of cases, serious, life-altering injuries occur. In Ireland, the IRFU Charitable Trust support those players who have had the misfortune to be affected in this way. The Trust relies on public donation and sponsorship. “To celebrate the courage, cheerfulness and outstanding fortitude of those seriously injured players, I pledge to walk from Kingspan Stadium in Belfast to Aviva Stadium in Dublin - 112 miles in 3 and a half days - to raise funds for the Trust.” Michael will aim to arrive in Dublin on the morning of the Champions Cup quarter-final match.
