Connacht U20s produced an impressive second half performance to outscore Ulster 28-8 at the Sportsground on Friday evening. Ulster were narrowly defeated by Munster last week at Queen's Arena and they entered the game with confidence, but an underwhelming performance and abysmal weather conditions combined to see them suffer a second consecutive inter-pro defeat. The visitors opened the scoring in the 6th minute when Hughes Insurance Academy outhalf Andrew Magrath notched a well-struck penalty. His opposite number Simon Keller landed two equally impressive kicks to give the hosts a deserved 6-3 advantage at the break. Connacht winger Michael Boland registered the first try of the game shortly after the interval, finishing off a fine move. The accurate Keller had no problems adding the extras for a 13-8 lead. Fullback Tim Carroll then got his side's second try midway through the second half to extend the Connacht lead to 18-3. Ulster kicked into gear in the final quarter and produced some nice rugby, which was rewarded when captain Adam McBurney (pictured) crossed for the visitors' only try of the game. Keller responded with his third penalty immediately after to push Connacht into a 21-8 lead and there was still time for a late converted try from second row Cillian Gallagher to put some gloss on the scoreline. Ulster are on the road again next week, facing Leinster at Donnybrook in what will be another difficult encounter.
