URSC continue support of Women's Performance Programme

Just before kick-off at the Ulster versus Ospreys game at Kingspan Stadium on Friday night, members of the Ulster Rugby Supporters Club (URSC) presented a £2,000 cheque to Ulster Rugby as it continues its support for the Ulster Women's Performance Programme.

Established in 2015/16, the Ulster Women’s Performance Programme includes additional on-field training with advanced technical and tactical sessions as well as strength and conditioning support, rehab, mental skills and lifestyle support for a number of talented players in Ulster.

The programme was introduced as part of the strategy to help increase Ulster’s representation in the Ireland squad ahead of the 2017 Women’s World Cup, and has now been continued for the third successive year.

URSC Chair Jonathan Bill said:

"The Supporters Club are keen to play a part in developing Ulster's best young players to ensure the best preparation off field and playing standards on field. This is our third year of contributing funding to the Programme. We are determined that the enthusiasm that accompanied Belfast's hosting of the Women's World Cup Final is maintained and that the legacy from that tournament is a strong Ulster Women's Rugby setup."

Ulster Rugby's Female Rugby Officer, Neal Johnston, welcomed the continued support from the URSC:

"With the sustained support of the URSC, we are able to continue our delivery of this very important programme that supports our talented female players, providing them with more comprehensive support in a performance environment to assist them reaching their own aspirations and potential. Once again, we thank the URSC for their support as we continue to strive towards seeing more Ulster women representing Ireland and contributing to success on an international stage.”

Presenting the cheque to Ulster Women’s Rugby player Eliza Downey on behalf of the Ulster Rugby Supporters Club are (from L-R): URSC Committee members Stephen Johnston, Lynn Wilson, Jonathan Bill (Chairman) and Niki Wild.
